    The next Tanzania's epidemic

Over centuries the world has been passing through different regional epidemics. In tropical regions malaria made a louder sound.

Other epidemics which shook the world include tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS which killed  a lot.

Now the trend has changed tremendously, noncommunicable diseases (NCD's) are now massive killer and not infectious as it was before. These are cardiovascular diseases, cancer, diabetes, stroke, hypertension and chronic respiratory diseases.

According to WHO, noncommunicable diseases (NCD's) take the lives of estimated 40 million people each year, accounting for 70% of all deaths worldwide, amongst them 15 millions of age 30-70.

Mostly early deaths (85%) occurred in developing countries, including 41% in lower-to middle-income countries where the probability of dying of a chronic diseases between the ages of 30 and 70 years is up to four times higher than in wealthy countries, WHO says.

The essential emphasis on prevention requires a greater reliance on the social and life sciences.

NCD's are a "slow-motion disaster" taking years to develop over signs. The fact that predisposing risk factors start early in life calles for a life-course approach to prevention and  control, WHO says.

The researches show overweight and obesity is the leading mother route to noncommunicable diseases (NCD's). Which results to other fatal diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, cancers, stroke and their related complications.

    In Tanzania
More than 10 million Tanzanians are overweight and obese, showed global report (Tanzania daily news June 15,2016).

The late "Global nutrition report" states that 25% of the Tanzanians adult population are overweight, 7% others obese.

Broadcast live through special teleconference, on Tuesday, June 14, 2016, the report which outlines major nutrition and health findings around the world, revealed that 35% of women population of Tanzania was overweight against 17% men.
11% of lades happen to be obese against 3% young men.

Overweight and obesity is the next Tanzania's epidemic which is incredibly increasing and of course shall slain majority unless we take proper measures.

Expert issued NCD's warning to Members of Parliament on May 29, 2016 by Tanzania Non-Communicable Diseases Alliance (TANCDA) Hon. Kaushile Ramaiya. He said for Tanzania in 1991, at least 8% of total health budget was needed for diabetes care and that figure keeps rising. Look this is just one consequence of overweight and obesity think about others and their related complications.

Without intervention, he said, during 2011-2015, cumulative economic losses due to NCD's in low and middle income countries are estimated at US$ 7 trillion. This sum far outweigh the annual US$ 11.2 billion cost of implementing a set of high-impact interventions to reduce the noncommunicable diseases (NCD's) burden.

TANCDA set 9 targets in which the first is to reduce by 25% the risk of premature mortality from cardiovascular diseases, cancer, diabetes and chronic respiratory diseases.

The government, NGOs and private sectors should take this issue seriously. Together we can rescue our people against this exploding epidemic.
